The Sharjah Criminal Court has charged two Asians for stealing 12.2kg of gold worth Dh1,900,000 from a gold shop they were working for in the Shuwaihean area.
The presiding judge, Hussein Alasovi, charged the two Asians with theft, according to a sheet prepared by the prosecution.
During the court hearing, the first accused confessed to the theft, but denied the quantity stolen. He said the shop owner's claim that he stole 12kg is untrue. He said he stole just 1kg of gold valued at $125,000.
The second accused "Q, Q" said he is innocent and that he was the one who discovered the theft and informed the owner and her husband about the missing gold. He said, at the time of the theft, he was on vacation and when he came back, he did an inventory and that was when he realised that some gold was missing.
The first accused said he stole the gold alone and admitted to stealing gold worth Dh750,000 because he was beaten up during interrogation.
The owner said she has submitted a list of stolen items.
