Excited to have grabbed a cheap travel offer, 21 expats in Sharjah had already packed their bags for their holiday back home - only to realise that no plane tickets had been booked for them.
It was a deal sold by a man who was working for a tourism company in Al Dhaid.
The Sharjah Police posted a photo of the suspect on their Instagram account on Monday, explaining how the fraudster duped at least 21 people.
Upon receiving the reports from the complainants, officers at Al Dhaid police station swung to action and formed a team to probe the incident.
And in 48 hours, the police arrested the man who confessed to the crime, explaining that he did it because he needed the money to pay his debts of more than Dh100,000.
After taking the expats' money, he changed his residence and switched his phone off, the suspect said.
He explained that he made the bookings but he never turned over the payment to his company, so the bookings had been cancelled automatically.
The case was submitted to the public prosecution for the legal procedures.
