The Department of Transport in Abu Dhabi has clarified that there are no immediate plans to implement the new road toll collection system in Al Ain city and Al Dhafra area. (Four Abu Dhabi locations where you will have to pay toll)

According to Ibrahim Sarhan Al Hamoudi, the Acting Executive Director of Surface Transport, the new road toll collection system aims at reducing traffic congestions in Abu Dhabi. He explained that both Al Ain and Al Dhafra area have no such traffic problems, the Al Khaleej reported.

The department would implement the system in these areas if the need arises, he noted.

Additionally, the new system will decrease the number of vehicles that will use the four gates by approximately 4,000, thereby reducing traffic congestion in these areas.

Al Hamoudi said that the new toll system will deduct toll from each vehicle by scanning the number plate, and there would be no need to place tags on windscreens.
