Souq Al Jubail switches off its lights to celebrate Earth Hour

Souq Al Jubail, a project of Sharjah Asset Management, the investment arm of the Sharjah Government, turned off its lights for one hour between 8:30pm to 9:30pm on March 19 to mark Earth Hour.
Souq Al Jubail is committed to joining local and international efforts in achieving sustainable development and to protecting the planet for future generations. The initiative is also part of the corporate social responsibility to conserve the environment and natural resources.
Speaking on the occasion, Ali Al Suwaidi, Director of Souq Al Jubail, said: "Organisations and landmarks in countries across the world take part in this global campaign to save energy and protect natural resources by reducing the carbon footprint that threatens the environment and life on Earth. We aimed through our participation to join efforts in raising awareness on this issue and to conserve ournatural surroundings for future generations, as part of our responsibility to the community in which we operate."
The market is strategically located in the heart of Sharjah city, close to the Central Market and opposite the Government department buildings in the Al Layyah area. The market officially opened in December of 2015.
The opening of the market fulfills the vision of His Highness Shaikh Dr Sultan Bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to provide the UAE nationals and residents with all their fresh meat, fish, and fruits and vegetables needs at affordable prices
The market consists of 67 meat and poultry shops, 91 shops for selling fish, and 212 fruit and vegetable shops. The fish section is fully equipped with modern tools and gear to clean and cut fish to ensuret he highest standards of public health safety.
