Sharjah - Most of the beggars come to the country on visit visa just to collect large amount of money to take it to their home country.

The Sharjah Police arrested 34 beggars including 25 men and nine women during the last three months, as part of a campaign titled 'Beware of Beggars'.

Col. Ibrahim Al Ajill, Director of the Criminal Investigation Department, told Khaleej Times that the number is not big compared to those arrested during previous years.

He added that the UAE has provided methods of decent living for all with a large number of charity organisations that provide support to those who are in need.

Some of the arrested beggars were illegals and some were wanted by various police stations for crimes including thefts.
The beggars these days use different ways to get the sympathy of the residents, he said, adding that some of them were wearing dirty clothes while some others were pretending as they are disabled. The women were found exploiting their children to gain sympathy.
