Needing two off the final ball, Rajasthan's Rovman Powell missed a full toss and was trapped in front of the wicket by Bhuvneshwar Kumar
The ongoing cultural extravaganza of Sharjah Heritage Days has officially opened in Khor Fakkan.
Sheikh Saeed bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Deputy Chief of Sharjah Ruler’s Office in Khor Fakkan — along with Dr Abdulaziz Al Musallam, Chairman of the Sharjah Institute for Heritage and Chairman of the Higher Committee of Sharjah Heritage Days — inaugurated the Khor Fakkan edition of the fest on Saturday.
Musical renditions by the Sharjah National Band brought the launch to life, while the Macedonian Entertainment Troupe went all out with a remarkable dance show. The town’s sceneries created the perfect backdrop for the grand showcase of Khor Fakkan’s golden traditions, crafts and customs. Popular food and sweets were spread out, along with pottery and heritage mementos that capture that history of the city.
The event, which is organised by Sharjah Institute for Heritage, will be held in the town till April 3. Workshops and seminars are lined up for the coming days.
“Today, we arrive at the city of Khor Fakkan, where we celebrate the unique facets of local heritage. The event is an opportunity to introduce younger generations to the diversity and richness of local cultural heritage, and connect the past and present, through a rich agenda of activities and workshops. Sharjah Heritage Days is one of the most important titles in the world of heritage, bringing the whole world under one roof in Sharjah,” said Dr Musallam.
“The event represents a hub for the exchange of knowledge, information, and experiences, and provides an opportunity for all to experience and learn about and interact with local and Arab heritage in general.”
Also present at the opening were Sheikh Majid bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Director of the Sharjah Districts and Villages Affairs Department (SDVAD), Dr Rashid Khamis Al Naqbi, Chairman of the Khor Fakkan Municipal Council, and Fawzia Rashid Al Qadi, Director of Khor Fakkan Municipality.
