Sawsan Jaafar becomes Friends of Cancer Patients new president

Friends of Cancer Patients (FoCP), a non-profit organisation has elected its new president and board of directors following the tragic and untimely death of Ameera BinKaram, the previous President of FoCP's Board of Directors.
The decision was taken during an extraordinary general meeting held at FoCP's headquarters in Sharjah recently.
As per the results of the meeting, Sawsan Jaafar founding FoCP president was voted new President of the Board at FoCP; Noha Mohammed Safar is vice-president, Areej Al Dweik Rasool is secretary-general and Mohammed Juma Al Musharrakh as treasurer.
The voting procedure was conducted in line with the regulations governing voluntary and civil society organisations in the UAE. The appointments were approved by representatives of the Ministry of Community Development and members of the General Assembly.
Attending the meeting were FoCP honorary members Dr Shereen Habib and Adalat Nakash. Participating in the voting process by proxy were Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi, Minister of State for Tolerance and founding member of FoCP and Sheikh Mohammad bin Abdullah Al Thani, Chairman of the Sharjah Department of Statistics and Community Development and board member of FoCP.
Approved and registered with the Ministry of Community Development under Ministerial Resolution No.427 for 2013, FoCP promotes awareness of cancer and operates initiatives that encourage the disease's early detection.
The organisation provides treatment and support for cancer patients and their families in UAE.
FoCP, which held its last annual general meeting in May, is committed to fulfilling all criteria laid down by the Ministry of Community Development with regard to the function of charities in the UAE.
FoCP was founded in 1999 in line with the directives and patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, wife of the Ruler of Sharjah, Founder and Royal Patron of FoCP, International Ambassador of the World Cancer Declaration for Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), International Ambassador for Childhood Cancer for UICC and Patron of the Non-Communicable Disease Alliance.
