As most people woke up to an average Thursday morning here in Dubai, for many students across the Emirate, August 18, 2016 marked a very important date in their calendar.
As 9am hit at Jumeirah College Dubai, AS and A Level students poured in through the front doors to find out their exam results, with many relying on their grades to help map out their future. For Egypt-born, Daniel Nashed, his calm exterior perfectly showcased his inner confidence.
He was the Topper for Jumeirah College.
Stood with two pieces of A4 paper in his hands, (one of the most important things he said he'll ever hold), Nashed secured four A*s in his A-Levels. The impressive results were recorded in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Further Mathematics.

But rather than plan for a weekend of celebrations, Nashed's thoughts were firmly set on his future plans.
"I'll be going on to study Civil Engineering at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in the States," he told Khaleej Times. Admitting he achieved better grades than he was expecting, Nashed humbly gave a big thank you to his peers and teachers at Jumeirah College.
"I want to thank my teachers so much because without them I would not have got these grades."
Speaking to Khaleej Times amidst the celebratory surroundings, Simon O'Connor, Principal of Jumeirah College, talked proudly of his students on results day.
"We're having an absolutely fabulous day. In many ways, this is one of the best days of the year because we see the students getting their results after all the hard work they and the teachers have put in over the last few months."
How the students reacted
Barely one hour after touching down at Dubai International Airport (DXB) following a visit to the UK, Aisha Oshodi and her father traveled straight from the airport to the school, eagerly waiting to get her hands on her results.
"We've traveled back to get these. We didn't want to go online. The rest of my family are back in the UK," she said.
And it was definitely worth the flight over. Aisha, who has only been studying in Dubai since Grade 12, received an A* and two As in Psychology, Chemistry and Biology. After calling her mum and hearing her proud screeches down the phone, Aisha said she'll now go on to study Dentistry in Manchester, UK.
"I can't put into words how proud of her I am," her father said, before embracing her in a hug.
True to Dubai's style, O'Connor said this year, students of the college broke many records.
"We've broken records at both AS and A2 level. At A2 we've got 13 per cent of our students with A*s and 76 per cent achieved A* to B grade. Then at AS level, more than half of students, 51 per cent, achieved A grades."
And bringing truth to these statistics was Anushka Dixit.
The proud A level student got two A*s and two As in Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology and Physics. Clearly elated by the results, Anushka said she's now looking forward to studying Medicine at Birmingham University UK.
"My family are so excited for me as I got in to my top choice university. Now I can finally become a doctor," she said. Classmates Ciara Lawler, Sara Wilkinson and Kenza Bhugeloo were also spotted celebrating their results. When asked the obvious question if all went well, the resounding response from all three was "yes!".
Ciara secured an A* and two Bs, Sara an A and two Bs and Kenza an A*, A and B. All three will be now heading to Belfast University (Northern Ireland), and Southampton University and Leeds University in the UK, respectively.
