Announcing the award at a Press conference on Tuesday, Lt-Gen Dhahi Khalfan stressed the award would take into account the culture and history of Dubai, where international awards in all disciplines have previously been established, and would be in the same spirit as the emirate’s first “giving man”, Shaikh Mohammed.

Lt-Gen Dhahi Khalfan, who has been named the chairman of the Board of Trustees of the award, said it aimed to honour individuals and private companies and institutions providing a valuable service to the community in social welfare, health, education and other fields that served UAE society.

“Achievements of bringing in stability, integration and solidarity among community members would also be vital and coherent, without regard to material profits or personal gain,” he said.

“The award would have a positive impact in encouraging all individuals and personalities in the civil society and private institutions to help Dubai, which always wants to provide the best in various fields, in its development. Important initiatives in the community came from different individuals, including those who were not wealthy or those who were young, and these people deserve appreciation,” he said.

He called on the Board of Trustees of the award and community at all levels to take up social initiatives that are in the interest of the nation and the development of the society, especially the youth.

Secretary-General of the award Major-General Mohammed Saeed Al Marri thanked Shaikh Mohammed for the trust placed on him. The award would encourage individuals to provide community-based initiatives in different areas and to contribute more to community cohesion and achieving real support to all segments of society, he said.
