Expect a new, modern fish and vegetable market in Ras Al Khaimah's Al Muairidh area soon, as the entire area is undergoing a massive renovation.
Up to 45 per cent of the multi-phase project has been completed, said Munther bin Shekar Al Zaabi, director-general of the RAK Municipality.
"The first phase of the project is set to be completed before the holy month, while the second stage will be finished after the end of Ramadan," he said.
The renovation work includes an overhaul of all counters where fish and other seafood are sold, chopped and washed.
New digital scales will be installed, along with advanced air-conditioning systems, Al Zaabi said.
"Customers will also have more convenient lounges in front of the preparation area, apart from the spacious and air-conditioned waiting spots," he added.
The project has been designed to meet customers' needs and make their trips to the market a pleasant experience, he said.
