Two others sustained injuries in the accident exactly opposite the Tasjeel Auto Village, between the third intersection and the Al Falah Military Camp.

The accident at 8.45am involved three vehicles. A rental truck from Ras Al Khaimah crashed into a truck of the Dubai Public Transport which, consequently, careened into the median. The truck driver, identified as Srinivasan, died at the scene from head injuries.

A third heavy truck hit by the Dubai Transport vehicle was deflected away from the middle lane and onto the sidewalk, slamming into a pedestrian identified as Nour F., who was standing near his car, police sources said.

The police said the accident induced a traffic choke which continued for more than one hour. Some small and medium trucks on the side of the road were also damaged.

Following a distress call received at the police operations room, traffic police officers, an Anjad patrol and an ambulance rushed to the accident site to move the injured to hospital and to ease the build-up of traffic.

Brigadier Saleh Al Mutawa, director general of Sharjah Police, who supervised the rescue and ambulance operations, said the crash was a result of the speed limit on the road being flouted and the drivers not maintaining a safe distance from each other.

Al Mutawa also attributed the accident to the two trucks, stating that they had moved beyond lanes allocated for heavy vehicles.
