The speed limit on the entire Umm Suqeim Road shall be raised to 90 km/h instead of the current speed limit of 80 km/h. The new speed limit shall be implemented from February 9, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced on Sunday.
The speed limit of the remaining part of Al Qudra Road (from the Emirates Road up to Seih Assalam Roundabout) will be raised to 100 km/h instead of the existing speed limit of 90 km/h.
Maitha bin Udai, CEO of RTA's Traffic and Roads Agency said, "RTA's decision to raise the speed limit of Umm Suqeim and Al Qudra roads is based on the Speed Management Manual, which charts out a flexible strategy and procedures for setting speed limits of Dubai roads conforming to the highest international practices."
She said such a strategy provides for intensifying basic engineering tools for addressing dangerous speeds, intensifying media campaigns highlighting speed risks, and advocating the use of the optimal traffic enforcement measures.
"One of the key tools of controlling the speed in Dubai is the radar system, and accordingly studies focused on the grace margin between the road speed and the grace speed according to the best international practices. RTA continuously revises maximum speeds of some vital roads and in the Emirate of Dubai to increase or reduce the speed limits depending on the condition of the road and the surrounding environment, in cooperation with our strategic partners."
