The Municipal Council of Sharjah City has agreed to a proposal on revoking the free afternoon parking period in the emirate.
At present, residents and visitors enjoy a 3-hour free parking period, from 1pm until 4pm in the afternoon.
Earlier this year, Dubai removed the similar free afternoon parking period starting May 28, with parking hours in Dubai now running straight from 8am until 10pm on working days.
The latest move in Sharjah aims to make it easier for shoppers to find a parking slot during afternoons, especially at important markets where many drivers have been seen abusing the car parks in the afternoon.
Such misbehavior has a negative effect on the shops in Sharjah.
The proposal will be implemented after informing the public through newspapers and local mass media.
The announcement came during the second Municipal Council meeting of the first ordinary session of the 12th annual chapter. The meeting was chaired by Rashid Sultan bin Taleia, Chairman of the Municipal Council of the Sharjah City.
It was also attended by Thabet Salim Al Tureifi, Director General of the Sharjah Municipality.
