Enhance road safety
Major General Al Romaithi elaborated that the decision was taken based on scientific studies carried out by a specialised team of the General Command of Abu Dhabi Police, the Department of Transport and the Department Of Urban Planning And Municipalities.
He pointed out that the studies included a traffic survey to identify the behaviour of drivers and change in speed as per the road's speed limit, and comparisons of standard speed limits and buffers with other countries that have achieved outstanding results in traffic safety levels and benefitted from similar changes.
Major General Al Romaithi thus called on the drivers to follow the new speed limits which have been set considering the development and use of road network with the increase in the number of vehicles and drivers.
He stressed the keenness of the UAE's leadership and its interest in the safety and security of road users, providing top international standards in planning road infrastructure projects and utilising latest international systems and practices, in order to preserve the lives and reduce the number of deaths resulting from traffic accidents.
Major General Al Romaithi explained that the public will be aware of the new speed limits and removal of the buffer on internal and external roads in the Emirate through a comprehensive awareness campaign.
