The Department of Public Works and Services in Ras Al Khaimah has built a new roundabout to express honour and reverence to the UAE martyrs, soldiers and national service conscripts.
The new roundabout, the 'National Service Square', is located at the entrance of Khat city, some 15km to the East South Ras Al Khaimah city, according to a top official.
Ahmed Al Hammadi, director-general of the Department of Public Works and Services, said the roundabout includes a cenotaph that holds the logo of national service and reserve, and the UAE flag.
"The memorial is a sign of respect to our heroes who sacrificed their blood and soul to preserve the right, defend justice and keep our country and nation safe, stable and prosperous."
The roundabout is strategically situated on the way from the Ras Al Khaimah International Airport and the southern areas of the emirate, such as Al Gheil and Azan. "The entire entrance of Khat city, mainly the old roundabout, has been developed to go with the civilised image of the city, and pay back part of the debt to the UAE heroes and martyrs," he added. "All infrastructure service supplies at the entrance and surrounding areas have been renovated while the roundabout has been planted, and the memorial has been installed."
The new roundabout will firm up the value and significance of national service in the hearts of the young Emiratis, and always remind us of the UAE servicemen who were killed while performing their national duty, Al Hammadi stated.
"We are trying to show gratitude to our martyrs and soldiers who sacrificed their souls in loyalty and love for the country."
Thousands of vehicles pass by the National Service Square every day, he pointed out. "The memorial reflects the true spirits of appreciation the Emirati people and leaders hold towards our heroes and martyrs." The General Command of the UAE Armed Forces, represented by the National and Reserve Service Authority (NSRA), liked and paid tributes to the project on their official Instagram account, Al Hammadi underlined.
"All Emirati nationals are hand in hand and stand united behind our brave armed forces who are ultimately dedicated to defend the country, its wealth and achievement, and ensure its stability and prosperity," said Al Hammadi.
Abdullah Al Shamily, Emirati, said sacrificing soul and blood for the country is a simple way to show gratitude to the UAE leaders and people. "The memorial will encourage the UAE youth to proudly join the national service and be aware that their country shall never forget their sacrifice, loyalty, and dedication."
Mohammed Nasser, who has just completed his national service said: "I feel proud to see the catchy memorial that shows respect to the UAE martyrs and servicemen."
