An Emirati man stood trial at the Dubai Court of First Instance on Sunday for threatening to stab his sister and insulting her after she allegedly travelled without her parent's consent and rented her own apartment.
The 31-year-old man, based in Fujairah, confessed to intimidating his 21-year-old sister through WhatsApp voice notes and texts.
According to court records, he threatened to stab and beat his sister while she was in Dubai. He sent voice notes to her and issued statements like: "I swear I will stab you with a knife."
The woman, a student, reported the matter to the police. Her brother admitted to prosecutors that he issued insults and threats because she travelled out without the family's consent and rented her own apartment in Dubai.
He is facing charges of issuing insult and threat.
A verdict will be heard on January 20.
