A 42-year-old Asian man stabbed a 34-year-old compatriot to death during a fight and then dumped his body at a remote place in Sharjah Industrial Area No. 17 to hide evidence, the Sharjah Criminal Court has heard.
The accused confessed having stabbed the victim after a scuffle broke out over bootlegging last month, records of police and public prosecutor investigations showed.
The autopsy conducted by the forensic laboratory of Sharjah Police revealed that the multiple stabs in the abdomen and chest caused the man's death.
During the first session, the court heard the testimonies of two CID officers who stated that the accused admitted to the crime after his arrest.
The second witness said that the accused and four accomplices came at the industrial area and confronted a group of 10, including the victim. All those present at the scene fled after the accused stabbed the victim to death. The accused dumped the body at a remote place and threw the murder tools in a garbage bin.
The defendant retracted his confession recorded before the police and the prosecution. He claimed that he confessed under duress.
According to the police investigation, they had received a call about the presence of a body in Sharjah Industrial Area No.17, a team comprising officers from patrols, CID, crime scene department and ambulance rushed to the area near the desert and found an almost decomposed body. The police launched an investigation, identified the killer and arrested him.
