Mohammed Assaf, a Palestinian pop singer and winner of Arab Idol 4 years ago, is still charming audiences all around the globe. But what exactly makes him such a magnet?

Nowadays having talent isn't the be all and end all, considering the fast food nation we live in - but there is something about this young chap that really does draw him into the spotlight with ease. What I loved most about this handsome talent was his warm demour and a humbleness that on first glance made it hard to distinguish him, from the crowd. Super calm and with a much healthier figure than the Max adverts suggests, this early bloomer gives a loving confident presence without egoist arrogance. He welcomed audiences with open arms at the Max Autumn/Winter fashion launch in Oasis Centre, just this evening, as if he'd asked everyone over to share Maqluba.

Like they say, home is where you feel most comfortable - maybe winning Arab Idol really did bring him home amongst the warzone of Gaza. Although I am sure anywhere other than growing up in a refugee camp is going to give consolation.
It was nice to see such a grand celebrity take his time with his fans in a somewhat simple and unpretentious mall. I can vouch for the fact that the 'Goodwill Ambassador' title for The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees is ultimately justifiable and not just good marketing work from his PR.
Here's hoping his development in stardom doesn't change this!
Keep an eye out in City Times next week for an exclusive interview with the man himself!
