Khaleej Times, the UAE's first English daily and first news website, on Wednesday won two gold awards that further cemented its leadership position in the region.
The WAN-IFRA awards, for best news website and best mobile news service, are witness to the relentless efforts made by the Khaleej Times digital team in being at the forefront of offering latest news and information to the web audience, both locally and overseas.
The awards, presented in Dubai, are also a reminder that digital is the way forward for publications.
"Digital news is disrupting traditional news models and we, at Khaleej Times, are proud to be at the forefront of this transformarion," said Saghir Ahmed Khan, Senior Vice President Finance & Operations, Khaleej Times. "We have pioneered new products and have a passion for continuous innovation," he added. Khaleej Times' digital offerings, over the past few years, have expanded beyond news. The bouquet now includes Buzzon, our classifieds portal, cinema listings, prayer timings, airport arrival and departure timings, and gold and forex pages. Behind the scenes, powering these products round the clock, is a small bunch of young web journalists, for whom multitasking is second nature.
Khaleej Times also has a vibrant social media presence, powered equally by an enthusiastic team of reporters and loyal surfers. Our Facebook page touched one million likes late last year, and we have already crossed 1.5 million, and counting.
If anyone deserves credit for this award, it's you, our readers and surfers, who have relied on us day and night to offer credible news and information on their fingertips.
