The victims were identified as Noushad Mohammed, 32, Shanibah Noushad, 25, and their daughter Naswa.

Close relatives of the deceased said the family was returning from Ras Al Khaimah airport to Abu Dhabi after seeing off their friends when tragedy struck.

Police in Ras Al Khaimah said the accident occurred, when the four-wheel drive the family was travelling in, rammed a truck loaded with gas cylinders after a tyre burst.

The driver of the truck also suffered serious injuries.

Noushad, who was driving the four-wheel drive, lost control over the vehicle after one of the tyres burst. The vehicle collided with the truck that was coming from the opposite direction, said Major Hassan Al Geda, Chief of the Traffic Patrol Section at the Ras Al Khaimah Traffic and Licensing Police, adding that the three died on the spot.

The Pakistani driver of the truck, Zahr Khan, 28, suffered serious injuries and was shifted to Saqr Hospital. The bodies are kept in the Saqr Hospital morgue.

A close relative of the deceased, who did not want to be named, said, “It was a shock for the families of the couple. Shanibah's parents, Abdul Gaffoor and Zulekha, have been living in Abu Dhabi for several years. Since they were informed of the tragedy, they have been devastated.” The family hails from Thrissur district in the south Indian state of Kerala.
