If accumulated traffic fines exceed Dh6,000, the vehicle of the driver will be listed as 'wanted' and seized, the Dubai traffic department has said.
Brigadier Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, director general department of the traffic at Dubai Police, said that action will also be taken against the motorist.
He pointed out that the traffic system gets updated automatically, and puts all such vehicles in the 'wanted' list, before they are confiscated.
Speeding at more than 80kmph over the speed limit invites a fine of Dh3,000. Two such violations will result in a Dh6,000 fine and, therefore, trigger the 'wanted' categorization for the car.
The security and traffic patrols is well-equipped and armed with modern techniques that zero in on the 'wanted' cars and their owners, and nab them if they try to escape because of the accumulated fines, Al Mazrouei added.
He said that a gold car - which had accumulated fines amounting to about Dh100,000 - was seized recently when its driver tried to exit the country from Oman.
He said criminal investigation department is looking into matter. Al Mazrouei said that rumours did the rounds on social networking sites that the police seized the car as it had gold parts or because it was painted with pure gold. He said that the traffic police are only concerned about if the vehicle is licensed properly and has no accumulated traffic violations exceeding Dh6,000 .

Al Mazrouei said that the excessive speed of heavy trucks, not leaving enough distance between vehicles, overloading and lack of attention while driving were found to be causing most road accidents.
He noted that it has been observed that truck drivers do not adhere to the specified speed limits and indulge in tailgating too often.
He said that on Monday, an accident took place involving three trucks and a heavy pick-up vehicle on the Emirates Road, before the exit of Al-Aweer, towards Sharjah. Three people were injured, and one was critical.
