Want to do your bit for underprivileged children at refugee camps? An Indian philanthropist is organising a donation campaign in Dubai to collect stationery items that will then be handed over to the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC).
The drive will be organised in Dubai on October 13. It aims at collecting 5,000kg of stationery items that will be distributed among children at refugee camps.
Residents can donate notebooks, paper, drawing books, pens, pencils, colour pencils, crayons, sharpeners, rulers, glue, scissors, calculators and schoolbags in good condition (preferably new).
According to Venkatraman Krishnamoorthy, a Dubai-based chartered accountant, individuals interested in making donations can do so directly at Al Diyafah High School in Dubai.
UAE entities can also set up collection boxes for the cause at their offices. All they need to do is send an e-mail to venkatca@education4all.info requesting for an ERC carton before September 5. These cartons will need to be delivered at Al Diyafah school on October 13.
Krishnamoorthy said companies like du, Apparel group, Standard Chartered Bank, Home Centre, Al Diyafah High School, Al Salam Private School, Westminster School Dubai, Sheffield Private School and Oxford School Dubai have already committed to the cause.
In 2009, Krishnamoorthy took the first step towards empowering the lives of underprivileged children. He founded a charity called education4all that collects stationery items and distributes them among children in need.
Over the years, education4all has collected and distributed 25,051kg of stationery items. The group has supported underprivileged children in India and Africa. With the latest donation drive, Krishnamoorthy wants to extend its reach to those residing in refugee camps.
