The Sharjah Sharia court on Sunday heard the pleading of the defense lawyer, who said that the attempts they made with the kin of the victim to obtain a concession for qasas (retribution) and instead accept blood money (diya) failed, reported news website 24.ae on Monday.
However, the attorney appointed by the relatives of the victim told the court that the attempts made by the husband "were not serious and not up to the standards".
The court will announce its verdict on October 16.
The incident took place after a heated dispute between suspect and the victim, who is also the mother of his girl child.
He said in the investigations that he slapped his wife on her face and walked out of the room. The next day, he found her lying motionless and unconscious. He immediately called the ambulance and police, which found the woman dead.
In his statements, the defendant confirmed that his wife was in a poor state of health and was suffering from fever. He said he did not mean to kill her, and when he found her lying on the bed unmoving, he instantly called the ambulance and police.
He said he had left the house after the quarrel.
