Google has announced that its Street View is now available for the emirate of Umm Al Quwain (UAQ).
"Google Street View will allow millions of people from around the world to see Umm Al Quwain in a new way and experience 360-degree imagery of the city's most exciting sites and streets," said Mohamad Mourad, Regional Director for Google in Middle East and North Africa.
It allows users to navigate 360 degrees at street level and view its landmarks like Beach Garden, the Old Town Area, the Umm Al Quwain National Museum, and an abandoned Soviet-era Ilyushin Il-76 cargo plane.
Street view imagery is gathered using a vehicle equipped with advanced imaging technology. The captured imagery is stitched together to create a 360 degree panoramic image that allows one to move around and explore locations.
"This project with Google will enable the city's residents and visitors to browse through accurate panoramic imagery of Umm Al Quwain's streets, heritage sites, and tourist attractions," said Obaid Sultan, General Manager of Urban Planning in Umm Al Quwain.
To protect the privacy of Umm Al Quwain residents, all faces and number plates are blurred out before the imagery goes live on the internet.
