The 30-year-old Emirati accused did not show up in the Court of First Instance in the first hearing of his trial held recently.
Prosecutors accused him of intentionally driving his car into an on-duty police officer, injuring him, and damaging a public property (a police car).
The cop was among other police officers who were executing an arrest warrant against the accused on August 21.
"Around 7.30am, we were informed about a warrant on which Abu Dhabi police officers had to get our help in arresting the accused. We met them and learned from them that they planned to set the accused up and arrest him. The plan was to go outside a hotel where the wanted man was and catch him," the police sergeant, who got injured in the incident, said.
"I went in a patrol car with a colleague and parked next to the defendant's car that was in front of a hotel. The defendant moved his car backwards recklessly to evade arrest. I then stepped outside my car and stood in his way but that did not stop him from driving into me. He also damaged the doors and the front side of the police car".
He managed then to drive off but was arrested later.
A forensic report showed the police officer was left with a left knee injury and needed treatment for some time before full recovery.
The court ruling may be appealed within the legal deadline.
