A new 740m flyover leading to the Dubai Creek Harbour was opened on Saturday, the emirate's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced.
Part of the Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Crossing Improvement Project, the three-lane flyover links the traffic from Dubai - Al Ain Road and Al Khail Road to the Dubai Creek Harbour, a waterfront destination on the banks of the emirate's historic waterway. The harbour, where a luxury neighbourhood is taking shape, is set to be home to a host of mega projects, including Dubai's next tallest tower.
The bridge has a capacity of 7,500 vehicles per hour in the entry direction, and 3,000 vehicles per hour in the exit direction," said Mattar Mohammed Al Tayer, director-general and chairman of the board of executive directors of RTA.
The construction project also included improvements on the Ras Al Khor Road and its intersection with Nadd Al Hamar Street.
A new 1.5km street, with four lanes in each direction, was built to ease the movement of traffic from the Nadd Al Hamar - Ras Al Khor Road junction.
"This new network ensures free traffic flow to the newly constructed residential units at Dubai Creek area by linking with surrounding streets," Al Tayer said.
The RTA tweeted an aerial tour of the new bridge on Saturday:

Mega project
The Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Crossing Improvement Project is one of the biggest projects RTA is seeking to complete over the next few years.
Once completed by 2022, it will cut travel time between the Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Road and Dubai-Al Ain Rd from 22 to eight minutes.
It will also serve mega development projects in the area such as Al Kheeran, Dubai Creek, and Meydan Horizons. Overall, it will benefit more than 650,000 residents.
The project includes the construction of a flyover crossing over the Dubai Creek to link Jaddaf area with the street separating Dubai Creek and Dubai Festival City.
It is split into three contracts, the first of which was completed with the opening of the new bridge. Construction is under way for the two other contracts.
One of the contracts covers improvements to ease traffic on the Ras Al Khor Road, including a two-lane bridge and a two-lane tunnel. Collector roads extending 2.5km will also be built along Ras Al Khor, and a 1.2km sector on Nadd Al Hamar Street will be improved.
The last contract covers the construction of two flyovers. The first is a two-lane flyover to ease the exit from the Dubai Creek Harbour to Ras Al Khor Road. The second flyover, which is situated near Bu Kadra junction, will serve the traffic coming from the junction heading to Ras Al Khor Industrial Area, eliminating overlapping traffic at the junction.
These two contracts are expected to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2022.
