Dubai expat cleared of using forged parking permit

Dubai - According to court records, the permit had been expired for six months, but it showed a validity for another year.

A Dubai expat has been cleared of using a forged parking permit. The Court of First Instance earlier heard that the 37-year-old Arab woman posted the forged permit on her car which she parked in Al Khail area, Al Quoz.
According to court records, the permit had been expired for six months, but it showed a validity for another year. A parking inspector told the prosecutor: "There was a car that had a parking permit ticket which did not just look right."
The inspector called the Roads and Transport Authority operations and learned from him that the permit number was correct, but the permit itself had expired six months earlier. "I reported the incident to the police."
Police forensic experts, who examined the permit, found it to be forged.
During the public prosecution investigation, the accused claimed she had bought the permit from an Asian man on the street for Dh1,200. "She claimed she did not check the authenticity of the ticket. She also said that the man told her it is valid for one year. She then just used it on her car."
The court ruling has been appealed by the public prosecution.
