Two brothers, who beat up and kidnapped an Emirati relative over some previous family issues, have each been sentenced to two years in jail.
The Dubai Court of First Instance found the two Pakistanis, aged 38 and 32, guilty of kidnapping and threatening the relative even though they pleaded not guilty earlier.
The court also ordered their deportation after the completion of their jail terms.
According to public prosecution records, the two brothers went to the victim's house in Al Nahda and stalked him until he went out to his car around 4:00am on March 15.
"I was walking to my car in the parking lot when two men attacked me all of a sudden in the dark. They beat me up using an iron bar," the 33-year-old Emirati victim said. "When I tried to fight back, I was hit with a sword and got injured in the leg. I fell down while they kept beating me."
They snatched his mobile phone and car keys and forced him inside their car. "I was gagged and tied up in the back seat. On the way, they stopped to buy drinks, juice and a new duct tape.
"They drove towards Al Rashidiya. I heard them saying they would kill me and drop my body in the desert and then turn themselves in to the police. They stopped at their place where they changed their clothes before parking the car in a yard away from residential buildings. They drove away in another car, leaving me in the car I was tied up in. Eventually, I managed to open the door and scream for help."
The police arrived shortly later. He told them that the two men were then leaving the UAE through the airport.
The victim said that the defendants held him up for about almost three hours and that the attack left him with multiple fractures in addition to face, head and ear injuries.
"We arrested the two men at the Dubai International Airport. One of them was about to take a flight to the UK while the other's destination was Pakistan. They admitted willingly that old family disputes were behind the attack," a police lieutenant said.
