Motorists found using parking spaces of mosques during non-prayer timings will face hefty fines, warned a senior official of the Sharjah Municipality.

He said it has been noticed that motorists living around mosques used the parking at night to park their cars and when worshippers come for Fajr prayers, they don't get space.

The municipality has received a number of complaints from worshippers who usually offer prayers at King Faisal mosque (Saudi Mosque) located in Al Soor area and Abu Zar Al Gafari Mosque in Al Majjarah area. "Using parking spaces of mosques during non-prayer timings is strictly prohibited and violators would face hefty fines," he said.

He added that the municipality has recently announced that the street no. 4, 6 and 11 in Al Soor area are added to paid parking spots.
Parking spaces near Abuobaida bin Jarrah street, Zaid bin Haritha street and Habib bin Assaf street located in Bu Danig areas as well as parking spaces located behind Abu Zar Al Ghafari mosque in Al Majjarah area also were added to paid parking.

The official pointed out that the municipality added 1,534 paid public parking spots in different areas of Sharjah during 2016. The municipality has also installed 28 new payment machines in Al Majadra and Al Maja, near Central Souq.

The municipality is currently working on establishing 4,000 new paid parking spots in the emirate to regulate unauthorised parking, he added.
