The Ajman Police on Wednesday launched air patrols to monitor and control traffic movements in the emirate, in coordination with the Air Wing of the General Directorate of Security Support at the Ministry of Interior.
According to this new initiative, the police will use helicopters to detect traffic violations, reduce accidents and avoid traffic congestions.
In a video posted on the official Twitter account of the Ajman Police, many vehicles were detected committing different traffic violations. The video also shows the fine being issued to the errant motorists.
The violations included driving on the road shoulder, driving in the wrong direction, etc.
Lieutenant-Colonel Saif Abdullah Al Falasi, director of the Traffic and Patrols Department, Ajman Police, said that this is part of a series of efforts and initiatives to support government accelerators of the national index of reducing deaths to three deaths per 100,000 of the population by 2021.
Vital roads in Ajman will be monitored by helicopters to improve the control of roads and contribute to the identification of the main causes of accidents.
An official at the Air Wing said that the initiative will help the police determine areas of traffic congestion even on the internal roads and alert traffic patrols.
The air patrol will include traffic officers, who will study the roads' situation and the reasons behind the traffic congestion. They will also prepare a comprehensive analytical study to provide it to the municipality to find a solution to the problem.
