Ajman Police on Monday launched a 'Road Crossing Safety' initiative to increase awareness among pedestrians.

Lt. Col. Saif Abdullah Al Falasi, Director of Traffic and Patrol Department at Ajman Police, said that the initiative will last for three weeks. The police will work to raise awareness about the mistakes that pedestrians commit, such as crossing the roads from dangerous areas.

He added that crossing the roads from a non-designated area is punishable by a fine of Dh400.

Moreover, he explained that the initiative includes many activities to raise awareness about using pedestrian crossing bridges and respecting the traffic lights to avoid getting fines.

The initiative also targets the motorists, he added, stressing that all motorists should drive with caution and give priority to pedestrians. Not giving way to pedestrians is punishable by Dh500 fine and 6 traffic points, Al Falasi noted.
