In exactly four days, many of the UAE's residents will celebrate love on Valentine's Day. Whilst the usual regime for this day involves dinner after work or a humble exchange of gifts, Dubai offers a lot of alternative ways to celebrate the day. Here are a few places you and your partner could visit this weekend that won't cost a pretty penny and one that will (if you want to splurge).

Al Qudra Lake

Located far from the cosmopolitan rush of Dubai is Al Qudra Lake. This sanctuary in the desert is perfect for couples to stay in while enjoying a great picnic. You can camp for the night and try to spot a few birds lounging about in the waters. You can also go cycling as there is a bicycle rental shop nearby.

Al Bastakiya

Tired of the same old skyscrapers that dot the city? Why not go to the other side of town and experience Dubai as it once was. In Al Bastakiya, Dubai's oldest residential neighborhood, you can see old walls, heritage houses and birds that consider the area their home. What's more, you can always cross the Creek for Dhs2 (you and your partner) and discover the gold and spice souks.

Dubai Canal

Moving back to the city, Dubai's newest attraction is sure to please. With a majestic waterfall flowing underneath Sheikh Zayed Road, you'll have a picture- perfect Valentine's Day. You can also go on a cruise in one of the RTA ferries that ply through the Canal.

Any public park

Why not go out on a picnic with your partner in the many parks that dot Dubai? In some parks, there are cafes and amusement attractions. And if you haven't yet visited, the Dubai Garden Glow in Zabeel Park is highly recommended.

At the Top, Burj Khalifa

If you've got a couple of hundred dirhams to shell out, this is for you. At the Top in Burj Khalifa offers an unprecedented view of the city. Prices usually range from Dh125 up to Dh300 (to access Levels 125 and 124) and Dh350-Dh500 for levels 148, 125 and 124. Hey, if you're celebrating the day with a special someone, why not make it extra special right?
