Five Asians were referred to the Sharjah Criminal Court over an armed robbery in Sharjah Industrial Area 10.
The suspects were charged with forcible theft and stealing money from an accountant in a supermarket at knife-point.
They were carrying knives and threatened the victim, named A.M. on February 1 for money. A.M. told the judge that while carrying out his duties, a young man entered the supermarket at midnight.
He asked for a bottle of water and then returned with three other people. Soon they shut the door, a knife was put to the victim's neck until they found Dh35,000 in the supermarket's safe. They then fled across the street to a waiting car.
The victim gave their description to police officials and noted that he did not know the culprits.
After a 16-day manhunt, police arrested the suspects, who were identified by the victim. The money is yet to be recovered. The defendants have denied the charges and said the victim's testimony is incorrect. - amira@khaleejtimes.com
