Three Emiratis, in the age group of 18 to 20, were seriously injured in an accident on the Rams-Shaml road of the emirate on Friday afternoon.
"Initial investigations of the accident show that the driver lost control over the steering wheel, rammed into the iron bars and concrete pillars of a pedestrian footover bridge. His car got stuck in-between the iron bars and pillars," Col Ali Saeed Al Alkeem, Director of the RAK traffic and patrols department, said.
Col Ali Saeed Al Alkeem said the Central Operation Room was alerted about the accident at around 3.30pm. "The police patrol, paramedics, rescue teams and an ambulance rushed to the site and shifted the injured men to the nearest hospital for treatment and medical care." The driver, identified as M.S.A, and a back seat passenger, M.G.K., received moderate injuries, whereas A.R.A., who was on the passenger seat, was seriously injured, he added.
Col Alkeem urged motorists to observe traffic rules and regulations, mainly speed limit. "All drivers should be attentive enough on the road to avoid road accidents, and for their road users' safety."
Official studies prove that young Emiratis are blamed for most of the accidents recorded on the roads of the emirate, mainly due to speeding and ignoring speed limit.
"Inspection raids shall be intensified on a daily basis on all roads and areas of the emirate to protect road users' lives and clump down reckless drivers," Col Alkeem stated. Warning, he said racing draws a fine of Dh2,000, 12 black points, and 30-day impoundment of the vehicle while exceeding speed limit by more than 60km/h is fined by Dh1,000, 12 black points, and 30-day vehicle seizure.
"A fine of Dh900 and six black points shall be imposed on any motorist who exceeds the maximum speed limit by less than 60km/h, but speed limit by not more than 50km/h is fined by Dh800 while a fine of Dh700 is imposed on the motorist who exceeds speed limit by less than 40km/h."
Also, fines of Dh600, Dh500, or Dh400 are imposed on any motorist who exceeds the maximum speed limit by not more than 30km/h, 20km/h or 10km/h in turn, he underlined.
