The Abu Dhabi Police have arrested an African man and two Asian women for trafficking botox and other body injections into the country, as well as illegally conducting cosmetic procedures at peoples' homes.
The police also uncovered a variety of body injections and equipment that they use on their victims, at a residential villa in Al Ain.
Colonel Mubarak Saif Al Sabousi, director of the Al Ain Police, said the police received a tip-off about the group's illegal operation. The group was caught red-handed in Al Ain and were referred to the public prosecution.
They confessed to illegal trafficking and unauthorised medical procedures and admitted to carrying on the act for four months in the Capital and conducting procedures on at least four women for a fee of Dh6,000 each.
One Emirati woman who fell victim in the hands of two Filipino "nurses" in Abu Dhabi, who claimed they had the authorisation to conduct 'in-house" procedures, told Khaleej Times that she has been suffering from major health complications for more than three years since the body injection.
She said the nurses came to her house and charged her Dh3,000 for botox fillers, which resulted in serious infections and has left parts of her body, including her thighs and legs, disfigured. "My friend also had the similar experience. This is not just a nightmare, this has ruined our lives," she said.
She said that she chose the in-house service because it was "cheaper" than the procedures offered in hospitals. "I wanted to share my story to help other women. I hope that any woman who wants to have a procedure does it under the hands of licensed doctors so that she won't have to suffer like I did," she added.
