Dubai - The move is part of the police's "various annual humanitarian initiatives" in the form of financial and in-kind assistance to inmates.
The Dubai Police have facilitated the return journey of 1,145 inmates of punitive institutions by securing air tickets worth Dh1.47 million in the first half of the year. The inmates who had completed their prison terms were able to reunite with their families back home thanks to the police's initiative.
Brigadier Ali Al Shamali, director of the General Department of Punitive and Correctional Institutions, said they secured the tickets in collaboration with their "partners and philanthropists". "The initiative reflects our keenness to ensure the inmates' safety, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic."
He said the move is part of the police's "various annual humanitarian initiatives" in the form of financial and in-kind assistance to inmates and their families. "Other initiatives include sponsoring the tuition fees of inmates' children, distributing school bags among them, bearing residential costs, medical equipment, blood money, providing food assistance and distributing Eid clothes," he said.
