Gurmeet Singh, a 38-year-old Indian national based in Dubai, bought his lucky ticket no. 1197 online in Series 280 on July 18. A participant in the promotion for a year now, Singh, a showroom manager, decided for the first time to share the cost of the ticket along with his nine other colleagues (Indian, Bangladeshi and Filipinos), and purchased the ticket when all agreed to split the prize if they win.
"I always believe that a promotion like this does work. Dubai Duty Free is indeed full of surprises," said Singh, a Dubai resident for 16 years.
Following the draw, a presentation was made to previous winner, Antoine Labaky, who won in Series 279 with ticket number 3277. Labaky, who was flown in from Lebanon to collect his prize money, is the 11th Lebanese national to win $1 million. He had also won a BMW 745Li (White) in Series 1151 on August 17, 2004.
"I am thrilled to be here today to receive my winning prize and to thank the people who made my dream a reality. This is truly a memorable experience for me," Labaky said.
