This is Dubai Metro's busiest station, and it's not Burj Khalifa

The Burj Khalifa-Dubai Mall Station, with 577,249 passengers, stood fourth in the list of busiest stations in April.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced that the Dubai Metro, comprising the Red and Green lines, has posted high ridership rates last April, clocking 13,879,636 passengers, which compares well with the ridership recorded during the same period last year amounting to 11,298,414 riders.

In terms of footfalls on stations, Deira City Centre on the Red Line was the busiest, while Al Fahidi on the Green Line came second.

Abdullah Yousef Al Ali, Acting CEO of RTA Rail Agency, said: “The number of the metro riders last April reflect that the Dubai Metro has become one of the prime transit means commanding the attention of the Dubai residents, visitors and tourists, offering smooth mobility and access to key parts of the city in a way that measures up to the needs and expectations of users.

“This year has witnessed a remarkable growth in the number of metro riders compared to the previous year; which has always been the core of our plans tailored to delivering a whole host of initiatives and service improvements capable of enticing all community members to use the metro as a primary transit means characterized by security, luxury and safety.”

“The number of trips made by the metro on both the Red & Green Lines during last April amounted to 18,354 trips (10,244 trips on the Red Line, and 8,110 trips on the Green Line), which compares well with the number of trips made in the same month last year where the total number of trips was 16,534 trips (8,866 trips on the Red Line and 7,668 trips on the Green Line). The number of metro riders using the Red Line last April clocked 8,806,055 riders reflecting an increase over the ridership reported during the same month last year which amounted to 7,347,979 riders. Likewise, the ridership of the Green Line last April reached 5,073,581 riders, reflecting an increase over statistics of ridership during the same month last year which was 3,950,435 riders,” he added.

“Deira City Centre Station on the Red Line topped the metro stations in terms of passengers last April reporting 607,150 passengers followed by Union Station clocking 578,918 passengers, and Burj Khalifa-Dubai Mall Station was close third reporting 577,249 passengers, and Al Rigga Station was fourth with 539,889 passengers using the station.

“Al Fahidi Station on the Green Line came first during last April recording a ridership of 579,879 passengers, followed by Bani Yas Station serving 539,278 passengers, and in the third place came Al Ghubaiba Station recording 402,275 passengers, ahead of Oud Metha Station ranking fourth with passengers count reported as 385,725 passengers,” said Al Ali in a concluding remark.
