In one area, powerful storm winds toppled a train from its tracks, the officials said
Saeed, a private company that investigates minor traffic accidents in Abu Dhabi, has been extending its services to other parts of the country and launched the same in Sharjah two months back with a fleet of 20 vehicles.
Ahmed AbdulRahman, a resident of Sharjah, said he met with a minor accident at Al Khan when a motorist’s car brushed against his car and they called the Saeed team but it took more than 45 minutes to arrive on the scene. “And when they turned up, they found that the car of the person who caused the accident was not insured and they asked us to go to the nearest police station instead and complete the paper work from there,” he said.
“We went to the police station many times as the agency wanted a police report to repair my car and the police told us the case was being referred to prosecutors.” He called upon the authorities to have a good mechanism in place that would make the process easier.
Similarly, Delwar AKbar Khan, a Pakistan resident, also had an accident in Sharjah and they called Saeed more than three times and they could not turn up until about an hour later.
“The problem was that the officers coming for our accident didn’t even know the location very well. They called us several times asking us where to take a turn. At one time, they took a worng turn and had to come back,” he said.
Ali Muhammad Al Hudaidi, operations manager at Saeed in Sharjah, said the response time was about 10 to 12 minutes in most accidents. “There are times when there is a lot of traffic on the roads and the response time could be longer but this is not always the norm. Sometimes, there will be several calls to attend and there could be delays in that case.”
