The arterial road, strategically located in the Central region of the emirate, is scheduled to be completed by the end of this year, according to Eng Yusuf Saleh Al Suwaihi, Chairman of RTA Sharjah.
"The two-lane road, extending over 12.4km, will be 4.6m wide with a median road island, and 2.5m asphalt road shoulders on both directions, that all go with heavy trucks."
The project, meant to enhance public safety and security, is in line with the directions of His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, he added.
"The new road will boost the capacity of the roads of the emirate and better connect its regions and districts, and link them with the federal roads all over the country."
The new road will be paved with standard asphalt layers that best suit heavy trucks and as per the latest international road development benchmarks, Eng Al Suwaihi explained.
"The project also includes the construction of a 7.3m wide concrete two-lane subway in both directions," these are apart from other necessary facilities and infrastructure supplies," he said, noting that they have finished some 50 percent of the project.
"The project is to meet the current and expected needs of the urban expansion," he pointed out, urging customers to reach the Call Centre 24/7 at (600525252) for feedbacks, inquiries, remarks and complaints."
