The traffic and patrols department of the Ras Al Khaimah police on Tuesday issued 31 tickets against erring drivers and impounded eight vehicles for flouting set rules. 
Fifteen drivers were also advised to observe the traffic regulations during a two-month intensive campaign which started on Tuesday, according to Major General Ali Abdullah bin Alwan Al Nuaimi, Commander-in-Chief of the RAK Police. 
"Some of the drivers fined proved to have exceeded the permitted tinting limit, were driving without license or expired registration cards while others were not buckling up, ignoring safety space, speeding, and failing to abide by lane." 
The traffic campaign, themed 'commitment', is one a series which are meant detect and control the traffic violations and handle them on the spot or thereafter, he added. "Raising and developing traffic awareness is of great importance as well." 
Brigadier Dr Mohammed Saeed Al Humaidi, director general of the central operations department, said the campaign will cover all the roads and highways of the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah. 
"The inspection campaign, led by Major Salem Burqiba, will help boost traffic safety and security, and develop an accident-free society," he said, noting that 31 fines were issued in one day. 
"Eight vehicles have been impounded for being involved in serious traffic violations while 15 others were warned for failing to abide by the set traffic rules and violations."
