Cameras installed on Shaikh Maktoum Road that links the city of Fujairah to the Massafi neighbourhood, following the renovation and restructuring of the course, are sophisticated radars and their main function is to monitor motorists who cross the speed limits by noting the number plates of the speeding vehicles. It is not to check the persons inside the car, said Brigadier Mohammed Ahmed bin Ghanim Al Kaabi, Commander in Chief of Fujairah Police.
The confirmation of Brigadier Kaabi came after some road users expressed fear that the cameras fixed on the 35km road were designed to capture photos of the passengers inside the vehicles to monitor their use of phones or not buckling up while driving,
“The radars which have been recently installed on the main roads and streets in the emirate are most sophisticated and were introduced as part of the police department’s continuous efforts to keep traffic flow under control and spread traffic safety among the public,” he said.
Fujairah Police on Sunday denied on its Twitter account claims that had gone viral about security cameras installed on a main street opposite Ajman University photographing passengers who had not fastened their seat belts and were using the phone while driving.
