During Ramadan, 131 cars and 24 bikes were confiscated by the department and its Director Maj-Gen Mohammed Saif Al Zafin said the majority of vehicles were involved in races, with the drivers causing chaos on the emirate’s roads.

Following a number of complaints about the reckless drivers, police patrols were deployed in areas which were identified as a popular hangout for the errant motorists including Dubai Bypass Road, Al Khwaneej, Nanama, University City as well as the residential areas of Al Mizhar, Muhaisna and Mamzar.

It was revealed that the drivers who participated in the races were from a mix of nationalities and many had new cars which had been modified, the police said.

Many of the vehicles were found to have in-built computers, devices and plane fuel tanks installed to increase their car speeds.

The police managed to apprehend several motorists and impounded their vehicles after they were found to be driving recklessly. -news@khaleejtimes.com
