Dubai — Al Qudra Road has been widened from the Jebel Ali-Lehbab Interchange up to the Bab Al Shams roundabout, extending 12km and comprising three lanes in each direction at a cost of about Dh110 million.

“The initial stage of the project saw the opening of Al Qudra Road; which has been widened from one to three lanes in each direction. It stretches from the bridge above the Jebel Ali-Lehbab Road up to the Bab Al Shams roundabout. Currently two diversions are in place extending over 2km to cover the bridge works and camel crossings. On January 31, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will open the new bridge which is parallel to the old bridge crossing Jebel Ali-Lehbab Road.

The cyclists' track will be diverted to the new bridge, and fencing will be done to separate the cyclists track from the road. The RTA will open vehicles and camels crossing on Al Qudra Road on March 31.

Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the RTA, expressed his delight with the opening of this vital project which is considered a key traffic corridor starting at Jumeirah via Umm Suqeim Road which has recently been upgraded with the opening of two bridges with three lanes in each direction.

The first is over the Eastern Parallel Road (Al Asayel Road), and the second stretches above the Western Parallel Road (Al Khail First Road). Traffic has been running smoothly through the flyover on Al Khail Road and the Arabian Ranches Interchange on the Shaikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, and from there to Al Qudra Road above Al Qudra Bridge on the Emirates Road up to Seih Assalam.

“The road-widening project aims at stepping up the safety level on Al Qudra Road, especially in the last section extending from Jebel Ali–Lehbab Bridge up to Bab Al Shams roundabout, where some motorists are seen speeding. In designing and constructing the road, the RTA ensured best possible safety standards for road users. Metal rails have been erected on the median so that motorists do not take wrong U-turns from non-designated areas, besides renewing road marking and intensifying the road lighting. The project design also encompasses maintaining all trees as well as irrigation networks and lighting poles,” explained Al Tayer. -news@khaleejtimes.com
