The Department of Transport (DoT) in Abu Dhabi has announced today that it has completed more than 6 million ‘safe man hours’ of main road maintenance and improvement in the Western Region and Al Ain City.

Statistics provided by the DoT show that the total number of working hours in both regions has exceeded 6 million with no incident in the Environment, Health and Safety (EHS). This can be translated into an average of 950 working hours for each team member.

The total amount of road works and infrastructure undertaken in the Western Region is calculated at 796.5 kilometres of roads, 10 bridges, 19 underpasses and 488 camel crossings.

Maintenance and road improvement works, in both regions, encompassed sand storm cleaning, replacing guard rails, rope rails, traffic signs, concrete barriers, street lighting, and pavement upgrades. Some of these construction works were damaged by vehicle incidents. Maintenance works also included earth and structure works, safety improvement for existing roads and road marking, laying of storm water drainage with Right of Way (ROW), installation of street lights, chain links and sand fences for added road segments, as well as construction of roundabouts and parking areas.

Eng. Faisal Al Suwaidi, General Director of Main Roads at the Department of Transport in Abu Dhabi, said, “The DoT pays great attention to maintenance and improvement of roads. Such projects are in line with the Department’s strategy which aims to build a world-class, integrated and sustainable transport infrastructure that help fuel the Emirate’s socio-economic development and its key priorities of promoting a more prosperous future for generations to come”.
