DM’s public transport initiative receives good response

The number of Dubai Municipality employees who used the buses of the civic body during the first half of 2012 reached 36,800 and 3,556 trips, Khalid Ali Bin Zayed, Director of Human Resources Department of Dubai Municipality, has said.

In 2011 it was 159,7580 employees and 48,628 trips. It is remarkable that 2,850 employees used the public transport in the car free day of 2011.

“The civic body promotes public transportation in all ways possible among its employees. It gives free Nol cards for those who use metro and Dubai buses. In addition, employees who are staying in municipality accommodation and in Sharjah and Ajman emirates also can use municipality buses to reach office,” he said.

Khalid praised the high awareness of employees and said that the public transport contributes in reducing the carbon footprint as each ten passengers in a bus or metro can save 230 gram of carbon dioxide.

“The initiative of transportation section of municipality could achieve 87% of success being an ideal example for the community in using the public transport,” he added.
