Sometimes, leaders can be so far removed from daily operations that they forget they are managing humans, not robots
The call for review by the Director of the department Major-General Mohammed Saif Al Zafin has been made in a bid to minimise traffic accidents, after indicators have suggested that speed is one of the main causes of accidents.
Among the roads effected if the change is implemented will be Emirates road and Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed.
Maj-Gen Al Zafin said that there is an 80kmph difference between the minimum and maximum speed limit on the roads, from 60kmph—140kmph, which contributes greatly to the number of accidents witnessed on the two main roads.
He said problems often occur when vehicles overtake and police patrols cannot fine motorists who drive at 60kmph.
As well as a reduction in the maximum speed limit, Maj-Gen Al Zafin has called for a 20kmph rise in the minimum speed limit to 80kmph on Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed road, Al Khail road and Dubai—Al Ain road.
He also added that the 40kmph difference in the maximum speed limit set for heavy truck drivers, at 100kmph, in comparison to the maximum speed limit for other vehicles has contributed to the increasing number of deaths witnessed on Emirates road.
Maj-Gen Al Zafin said that the risks increase when heavy trucks change lanes, and often get caught behind slow moving trucks, which can cause fatal accidents.
