Ras Al Khaimah - The Department of Public Works and Services in Ras Al Khaimah will start relaying Bariyat Road from the Saqr Hospital this month itself.

The old layer of asphalt will be replaced with a new one, and the road marked again as per the latest international standards and specifications, according to a senior official. Ahmed Al Hammadi, Director-General of the department, said they have received several complaints that the 3.5km road is full of potholes and bumps created by heavy trucks.

“The department has adopted a new eco-friendly technology whereby it is recycling the old asphalt by heating it up to 200° Celsius using propane gas.”

Al Hammadi stated that the new technique has been efficiently used on some roads of the emirate, and in different areas across the country. “The main soil of the road is injected with other substances at high temperatures before being used again.”

The department will also build 130 new parking spaces in front of the emergency section of the Saqr Hospital in April, he stated. These will end the shortage of parking spaces.

The department is also widening the curves on roads to the Jais mountain, which saw an accident a few days back in which a 36-year-old Emirati man suffered injuries after his vehicle veered off the road and fell to a ditch.

“The rocks on the roadside fence will be fixed again as some rubbles came off the fencing last year and blocked the road.” -ahmedshaaban@khaleejtimes.com
