Chief of the Al Ain Traffic and Patrols Section Major Salah Abdullah Al Humairi, said that traffic control has been tightened on external and internal roads in Al Ain city. He also mentioned that traffic awareness campaigns have been intensified, as part of a comprehensive awareness plan launched earlier this year.

The plan includes approximately 20 awareness campaigns and aims to improve the traffic culture among workers, truck drivers, and drivers of heavy and light buses.

“Revoking the driving licences of reckless motorists and suspending them from driving for a specified period of time are considered to be deterrent punishments. Taking such action prevents them from putting their lives and the lives of others at risk,” said Al Humairi. Al Humairi urged all motorists to adhere to traffic laws and avoid exceeding the traffic point limit of 24 points, warning violators that licences would be suspended as a result of breaking the rules. He also pointed out that truck drivers overtaking other vehicles in a dangerous manner is a violation punishable by 24 points and reckless driving and driving in a way that poses a danger to the public is punishable by 12 points.

Moreover, trucks will be impounded for two months if its driver overtakes another vehicle in a dangerous way. Light-duty vehicles that exceed the permitted level of car window tinting will be impounded for one month. Heavy-duty vehicles that do not comply with safety and security conditions will also be impounded for one month.

The Traffic and Patrols Section in Al Ain organised an awareness programme for 64 drivers in Emirates Transport last week on causes of traffic accidents. The programme called upon drivers to adhere to speed limits in order to save lives and properties and to use signals, which serves as the language that drivers use on roads, saying that this will help avoid traffic accidents that may occur due to taking a sudden turn without signal indication.
