Murray, who was leading 6-3, 6-1, 4-2 when Beck quit, is trying to go one better than last year, when he lost the final at Melbourne Park to Roger Federer.

Murray is Britain’s main hope of ending a 75-year-old drought in men’s singles Grand Slam titles — the last major by a British man was Fred Perry in 1936.
